  Trans Gender and Non-Confirming people face unique mental health challenges furthered by social stigma and discrimination. Additionally, Psychologists and other mental health professionals who have limited training and experience in TGNC-affirmative care may cause harm to TGNC people. TGNC-affirmative mental health care practice aims to respect and support the lived experiences of TGNC groups. The Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Transgender and Gender Nonconforming People (hereafter Guidelines) published by the American Psychological Association is to assist psychologists in the provision of culturally competent, developmentally appropriate, and trans-affirmative psychological practise with TGNC people.
