“And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.” ― Sylvia Plath
Belongg recognises the transformative power of literature. Given the unpredictable times we are in, many people are seeking refuge in writing—an act that frees us of our own predicament.
Keeping in mind the need to kick start discussions on themes of Diversity and Inclusion through the medium of writing, Belongg organised “Youth Writing Contest 2021”. This contest was conceptualised to provide an excellent opportunity for school students to showcase their creative skills and expose themselves to the themes discussed above.
On 28th April 2021, we invited entries from students currently studying in classes 9- 12 under the following formats:
- Essay
- Flash Fiction
- Poetry
60+ schools were contacted across the country to encourage diverse participation. Student participants were requested to send their entries via mail at contact@belongg.net. The deadline to submit the entries was set at 21st May 2021.
The winning entries were read and selected first by the Belongg Team and then by a committee of literary experts. The results of the contest were declared on 31st May 2021.
We received 160 entries from students on the themes of Inclusion, LGBTQ issues, disability, and mental health.
You can find some of these brilliant entries on the Mental Health Collective Blog.
